Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Chris Miner is a sound composer and producer based in San Diego, CA and the owner of Mind Altering RecordS. As sneak peek, here we are showing The sinking Sun will always rise, from the album Tropical medication sessions available for just $5 in CD-R edition.
For Atomino 2010, he is proposing an interesting sound installation piece that would be set up in a small room and let it run for the length of the festival.
My idea is a bit complicated to fully explain, but I will briefly say that it involves me placing seven independent (that is not synchronized) sound sources in a room. I would prefer to use small CD players of the “boom-box” style that are all different models than be be put on “repeat” mode. I would record/create seven CD’s prior to the festival to be played in the seven CD players.
All CD’s will be played simultaneously- though they may start at different times. Each CD will be of different lengths (of time) and therefore as the CD’s repeat over and over, they will create an ever-changing sonic environment. The experiment (and challenge!) for me is to create/record material on each of the seven CD’s that will sound interesting no matter what is playing on each of the other six. My goal is to create a sound experience that will encompass a wide variety of feelings and textures that morph into one another, from uneasiness, fear, calm, beauty, love, etc.
